Socio-Emotional Assessment

A socio-emotional screening looks at a child’s emotional state, whereafter referrals can be made to assist the child and family in intervention of identified challenges.

This screening tool helps us understand how a child is feeling and how they are getting along with the people and things around them. This assessment is done by looking at how the child interacts with different parts of their life, like school, friends, family, and hobbies.

This tool screens the following:

  • School and peer relationships
  • Relationships with parents and siblings
  • Child’s experience of their parent’s relationship (marital or other)
  • The role of other significant people
  • Relationships in which the child might be experiencing discomfort
  • Possible attachment
  • Broad screening of perceptual and motor functioning
  • Screening of possible exposure to trauma, including physical/emotional or sexual abuse
  • Temperament

☺The face-to-face screening is two hours long and may be divided into separate sessions or done in one day, depending on your child's age and development.

☺The assessment includes a 50 minute feedback session with parents or caregivers.

☺The socio-emotional assessment and feedback session fee is R1800.

☺You may opt for a written referral letter for an additional fee of R850.
